REDEEMED.
Redeemed! redeemed! oh, word of truest gladnessTo the chained captive and the exiled slave!Redeemed! oh, captives in sin's crushing sadness,To you is come that joy-word: Christ doth save!
Redeemed with blood from every tribe and nationBy the eternal Lord, the Christ of God!Redeemed from sin, and from its condemnation,From death, and bondage, and each weary load!
Redeemed to God, to righteousness, and favour,Redeemed to liberty and joyous life!Redeemed to reign triumphant with the SaviourBeyond all possibility of strife.
Christ hath redeemed us in His love and pityTo be His own possession evermore,To share the splendour of His royal city,And its immensity of bliss explore!
Oh, Thou, who hast our ransom-price expended,Entered our prison-cell and set us free,Our base captivity for ever ended,Our blest Redeemer, we give thanks to Thee.
We take with gratitude and humble wonderThe great redemption Thou hast died to give; Now from henceforth may nothing ever sunderOur hearts from Thee as long as we shall live.
This, then, shall give the key-note of our praisesWhen heaven reveals the fulness of that word,When the great multitude its pæan upraises,Thou hast redeemed us, oh Thou loving Lord!
