HOW summer-fair, in central ocean, rose
Thy shore, Atlantis, wrought with fret and bay;
What time the orient banners might disclose
The azure-staining gules of dawning day!
How frail thy scarf of zephyr-wafted spray,
That glimmered while the sunshine yet was scant!
How green thy paths, where glancing lights did play
And softly sweep the forest-shades aslant!
How blest the soul were such its everlasting haunt!
