WRITTEN UNDER THE EXPECTATION OF SHORTLY LEAVING THE PLACE WHERE I HAD PASSED THE EARLY PART OF MY LIFE.
Home of my childhood! once so dear,
I quit you—not without a tear,
For in your green and shady bow'rs,
I pass'd my sweetest, gayest hours.

And in your groves and wood-walks wild,
I sported when a happy child,
Ere care and sorrow on my brow
Had planted deep their marks of woe.

Home of my youth! in ev'ry scene,
Through which my wand'ring steps have been,
