But ah! we feel no real joy
If all alone our steps we bend;
But pleasure is without alloy,
When bless'd with Heav'n's best gift, a Friend.
The desert would to me an Eden prove,
If travers'd with the friend I dearly love.

Father Omnipotent! I lowly bend
Before thy glorious throne,
In Thee still sure to find a Friend,
I trust in Thee, in Thee alone.
