It tells of Autumn hours and near decay:
But Summer lingers still with parting smile,
And all looks bright and fair! Oh, needs there more,
To fill with gushing pleasure, deep and pure,
Each heart which still can feel the magic power
Of earthly scenes to soothe, subdue, or cheer?

Milden, August 29, 1835.
