St W.i. c. 26, 17. 2 9> COnceming Porters bearing Verge before Juftices of the Bench in the Circuit ; it is provided, That, of every Affife and Jury that they keep they fliall take * xd. only, and for the Bills nothing. (2) Of fuch as recover their Demands by Default, Con- feffion, or otherwife by Judgement without Affife and Jury,, they fhall take nothing. (3) Of fuch as go without Day by Default of the Demandant or Plain- tiff, they fhall take nothing. (4) And if any reco- ver his Demand againft many by one Writ, and by Recognizance of Affife or Jury, they fhall be con- tent with ivd. (5) and likewife if many named in one Writ do recover by Recognizance of Affife or Jury, they fliall be content with ivd. (6) Of fuch as do Homage in the Bench, they fhall be content with their upper Garment. (7) Of great Affifes, Attaints, Juries, and Battle waged, they fhall take xii d. only. (8) Of fuch as be called before Juftices to fue or to defend their Pleas, they fhall take nothing for their coming in or forth. (15) Of Clerks writing Writs original and judicial, it is ordained, That for one Writ they fliall take but id. (16) And the King chargeth all his Juftices, upon their Faith and Oath that they owe him, that if fuch Man- ner of Officers offend in any Article againft this Sta- tute, and Complaint come to them thereof, they fhall execute on them reafonable Punifhment ; (17) and if they offend the fecond Time, they fhall award greater Punifhment, that they may be duly corrected : (18) and if they offend the third Time, and be thereupon convicted, if they be Officers of the Fee, they fhall leefe their Fee ; and if they be other, they fhall void the King's Court, and fhall not be received again, without the fpecial Grace and Licence of the King himfclf.'
