Abbots Aliens may vifit their inferiors in EiglanJ. 4 Ed. 3. c. 6. dnd far'ber by 5 Ed. 3, c. 3, to remain only in the Cuftody of the Abbot, and not of the Covent, fhall hereafter have a Common Seal, and that fhall remain in the Cuftody of the Prior of the Mo-naftery or Houfe, and four of the moft worthy and difcreet Men of the Covent of the fame Houfe, to be laid up in fafe Keeping under the private Seal of the Abbot of the fame Houfe ; (zj fo that the Abbot or Prior, which doth govern the Houfe, fhall be able of himfelf to eftablifh nothing, though here- tofore it hath been otherwife ufed. (3) And if it for- tune hereafter, that Writings of Obligations, Dona- tions, Purchases, Sales, Alienations,^ or of any other Contrails, be fealed with any other Seal than fuch a common Seal, kept as is aforefaid, they {ball be ad- judged void and of no Force in Law. (4) But it is not the Meaning of our Lord the King to exclude the Abbots, Priors, and other Religious Aliens, by the Ordinances and Statutes aforefaid, from execu- ting their Office of Vifitation in his Kingdom and Dominion ; but they may vifit at their Pleafures, by themfelves or others, the Monafteries and other Places in his Kingdom and Dominion in Subjection unto them, according to the Duty of their Office, in thofe Things only that belong to regular Obfervation, and the Discipline of their Order.' ' II. Provided, That they which fhall execute this Office of Vifitation, fhall carry, or caufe to be car- ried out of his Kingdom and Dominion, none of the Goods or Things of fuch Monefteries, Priories, and Houfes, faving only their reafonable and competent Charges. " III. And though the Publication and open Notice of the Ordinances and Statutes aforefaid was flayed in Sufpence for certain Caufes fithence the laft Parlia- ment, until this prefent Parliament holden at Carlijle in the Odtaves. of Saint Hilary, in the five and thir- tieth Year of the Reign of the fame King Edward, to the Intent they might proceed with greater Deli- beration and Advice;" ' (2) our Lord the King, after full Conference and Debate had with his Earls, Barons, Nobles, and other great Men of his King- dom, touching the Premiffes, by their whole Con- fent and Agreement hath ordained and enafted, That the Ordinances and Statutes aforefaid, under the Manner, Form, and Conditions aforefaid, from the firft Day of May next enfuing, fhall be inviolably ob- ferved for ever, and the Offenders of them fhall be pun-ifhed as is aforefaid.'
