Accomptants for Difmes of the Clergy not chargeable to anfwer other Mens Suits in the Ex- chequer. <I Times granted to the King's Progenitors, in their Convocations, Difmes to be levied of their Goods and Poffeflions, and after that they do appear before the Barons of the King's Exchequer, and the Names of
- the Collectors for the fame Grant be certified in the faid Exchequer, when the faid Collectors do appear
- before the Barons of the Exchequer, and enter into their Account for the faid Difme, that then the faid
' Collectors be often charged, vexed, and trouhled with Bills put by other Perfons againft them, for other
- Caufes and Matters than touching the faid Account, and by Occaiion thereof oftentimes they fall to great
" Poverty, and caufeth the faid Account to be Two or Three Years hanging, and the Difmes not contented,
- to the King's great Damage, and the faid Collectors alfo:
II. It is therefore ordained and eftablifhed by the King, his Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Com- mons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, That from henceforth if any Difme, or any Part of a Difme, be granted by the Province of either of the faid Clergies, to the King our Sovereign Lord, or to his Heirs, that after the faid Certificate returned into the Exchequer for the Difme, or Part of the Difme, and of the Names of the Collectors for the gathering of the fame Difme, that if the faid Collectors come by Procefs before the faid Barons of the Exchequer, and enter in their Account, that they fhall not be bound to an- fwer to the faid Bill or Bills there put againft them, by Reafon of the faid Entry in their Account, for any Manner Caufe, but only for the Matter touching the faid Account. III. Provided always, That if the faid Accomptant be fued in any other Court by Writ, Bill, or Plaint, that then hefhall take no Privilege of the faid Exchequer, by Reafon of the faid Account for any Suit, as before is jehearfed.
