VIII. And for preventing all clandeftine importing or bringing any Pepper into this Kingdom of Great '^^^t (Ii»Il be Britain, be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That if any Perixjn or Perfons, or Bodies Poli- ^«"i«d elande- tick or Corjjorate, from and after the faid feventeenth Day of February one thoufand feven hundred and '^^"^J"'P°'""'"» iiine, fhall import or bring any Pepper into any Port of or in this Kingdom of Great Britain other than" '' the Port of London ; or into the Port of London^ and fhall not make due Entries of fuch Pepper fo import- ed or brought in, and bring the fame into the faid Warehoufe or Warehoufes as aforefaid : The fame fliall be, and is hereby adjudged, deemed, accounted, and taken to be clandeftine Running, and unlaw- ful Importation thereof; and fuch Perfon or Perfons, or Bodies Politick or Corporate, fo offending therein, and their Abettors, fhall not only forfeit and lofe all fuch Pepper fo clandettinely run as aforefaid, but alfo the Sum of one hundred Pounds, to be recovered and divided, one Moiety to her Majefty, her Heirs- and SucceiTors, and the other Moiety to the Perfon or Perfons that fhall feize, fue, or inform for the fame,- in any of her Majefty's Courts of Record at IVeJlminJier, or in the Court of Exchequer in Scotland. IX. And for preventing the clandeftine carrying of any of the faid Pepper out of the faid Warehoufes, "^^^ 'Jiall be be it enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That the Keeper or Keepers of the faid Warehoufe or Ware- ^^^^^^ clande- houfes (who fhall be provided at the Charge of the Importers) fhall keep one or more Book or Books, "f Pe"pe?'°^ ™* wherein he or they fhall fairly enter or write down an exaft, particular, and true Accoimt of all Pepper "' which fliall be brought into and carried out of his or their faid Warehoufe or Warehoufes. and the Days and Times when the fame was fo brought in and carried out, and how much thereof was delivered out to be confumed and fpent in Great Britain, and how much for Exportation as aforefaid ; and fhall at the end of every fix Months tranfmit in Writing an exaft Account thereof, upon Oath, to the Cominiffioners of the Cuftoms for the Time being, together with an exaft Account of how much fhall be remaining in hia or their faid Warehoufe or Warehoufes refpeftively, and the faid Commiffioners are hereby impowered and enjoyned, within one Month after the fame fhall be tranfmitted to them as aforefaid, to appoint one or more Perfon or Perfons to infpeft the faid Book or Books, Warehoufe or Warehoufes, and to examine the faid Accounts ; and if upon Examination it fhall appear that any of the faid Pepper was delivered out otherwife than as aforefaid, or before paying the Duties of fuch of the faid Pepper as fhall be fold to be confumed and fpent in Great Britain, or giving fuch Security as aforefaid, for fuch of the faid Pepper as Ihall be delivered out for Exportation as aforefaid, then the Warehoufe-keeper or Warehoufe-keepers, fo offending therein, fhall not only forfeit and lofe the Value of the faid Pepper fo carried out as aforefaid, and be for ever difabled from any publick Employment for the future, but alfo fliall forfeit the Sum of one » hundred Pounds for every fuch Offence, to be recovered and divided as aforefaid. X. And be it further enaded by the Authority aforefaid. That it fhall and may be lawful to and for Pfoprietorsmay the Proprietor or Proprietors of the faid Pepper, fo lodged in any Warehoufe or Warehoufes as aforefaid, t^^w^"h'"i" to afEx one Lock to every fuch Warehoufe, the Key of which fhall remain in the Cuftody of fuch Pro- &c. *" "'**' prietor or rroprietors ; and that he or they may, in the Prefence of the faid Warehoufe-keeper or Ware- houfe-keepers, who is and are her«by obliged to attend at all feafonable Times for that Purpofe, view, fort, and deliver out the faid Pepper, or any Part thereof, in Manner following; that is to fay. Such of the faid Pepper as fhall be fold to be confumed and fpent in Great Britain, to the Perfon or Perfons who Ihall buy the fame, upon paying the Duties charged or impofed thereon as aforefaid, and fuch of the faid Pepper as fhall be fold for Exportation to Parts beyond the Seas upon giving fuch Security as is before in that Behalf exprefTed. XI. Provided always, and it is hereby enabled by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after the Harf SuVfirfjr ftid feventeenth Day of February one thoufand feven hundred and nine, no other Duty fhall be taken or only to be paiJ demanded upon or at the Importation of any Pepper into Great Britain, (but the half Subftdy before- °" p™P°"^°" mentioned) and all other the Duties and Impofitions charged upon or for fuch Pepper as fhall be delivered ^^^ other'Dut;e3 as aforefaid, out of the Warehoufe, to be confumed and fpent in Great Britain, fhall be paid upon fuch on its Delivery Delivery out of the Warehoufe as aforefaid, and not otherwife : And that from and after the faid feven- outofthe Waie- teenth Day of February one thoufand feven hundred and nine, all Duties charged or impofed on fuch of '^""'^ f° '^on- the faid Pepper, as fliall be delivered out of the faid Warehoufe or Warehoufes to be exported, and fhall orix°"rt"'^' be exported accordingly (except the half Subfidy) fhall be difcharged, and from thenceforth no Draw- airotheroJt'iM • back difcharged.
