' ^X7 HEREAS by an Aft made in the fixth Year of her prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An A<1 y V fo^ if-'s better Security of ])er Majejiy's Perfon and Government, it is amongft- other Things enafted. That all Officers, Civil and Military, in that Part of the K.mgAom oi Great Britain czWed Scotland, who were obliged and required to take in Scotland an Oath, called the Oath of Allegiance and AfTu- rance, before the Privy Council there, fhould-be obliged, on or before the twentieth Day of April one thoufand feven hundred and eight, to take and fubfcribe the Oath by the faid Aft appointed, before the Privy Council while it fliould continue, and after the Determination thereof before and in the Court of Seffion, or the Court of Jufticiary, or the Court of Exchequer there ; and that all others then in any of the Affairs aforefaid, who in Refpeft thereof had ufed and been obliged to take the faid Oath of Allegi- ance and Aflurance in any other Court and Place, fbould be obliged to take and fubfcribe the fame at the next Quarter-SefTions of the Peace that fhould be held for any County or Place in which any fuch Officer {hould be refident or abiding ; and that all and every Perfon or Perfons whatfoever, who Ihould after be admitted into any Office, Civil or Military, within that Part of G?-eat Britain called Scotland, fhould, within three Months after his Admittance into any fuch Office, be obliged to take the Oath ap- pointed by the faid Afts in the refpeftive Courts above mentioned, according to the Diftinftion therein and above mentioned, for Perfons then in Office : And whereas feveral Perfons bearing fuch Offices, and who were likewife Members of Parliament, or otherwife neceffarily abfent, were at the Time of making the faid Aft, detained in England, by their Service in Parliament, and upon other publick and important Occafions, fo that they were rendered incapable of repairing to the Courts aforefaid, within the Time in the faid Aft direfted ; And whereas it may happen, that Perfons provided to Offices in Scotland, may, for attending the publick Service, or for other important Caufes, be detained in England, and thereby cannot take the Oaths in Scotland, within the Time required by the Laws :' For Remedy whereof, Be it enafted by the Queen's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and the Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by Au- Any Officer e!- thority of the fame.
