  • •^TTHEREAS feveral evil-difpofed Perfons, for divers Years lafl: paft, have fet up many mifchie-
  • W vous and unlawful Games, called Lotteries, not only in the Cities of London and TVeJimlnJler,

' and in the Suburbs thereof, and Places adjoining, but in moft of the eminent Towns and Places in ' England-, and in the Dominion oi Wales, and have thereby moft unjuftly and fraudulently got to them-

  • felves great Sums of Money from the Children and Servants of feveral Gentlemen, Traders and Mer-
  • chants, and from other unwary Perfons, to the utter Ruin and Impoveriftiment of many Families, and
  • to the Reproach of the Engl'ip: Laws and Government, by Colour of feveral Patents or Grants under
  • the Great Seal ol Englaid for the faid Lotteries, or fome of them ; which faid Grants or Patents are
  • againft the common Good, Trade, Welfare and Peace of his Majefty's Kingdoms :' For Remedy

.whereof be it enadted, adjudged and declared, and it is hereby enafted, adjudged and declared by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Tempo- ral, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by the Authority of the fame. That all Lotteries accU- fuch Lotteries, and all other Lotteries, are common and publick Nuifances, and that all Grants, Patents "^ publick Nai- and Licences for fuch Lotteries, or any other Lotteries, are void and againft Law. Grant's hereof n. And be it further enabled by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after the nine and twentieth void. Day of December., which fhall be in the Year of our Lord God one thoufand fix huridred ninety-nine, p ^ no Perfon or Perfons whatfoever fliall publickly or privately exercife, keep open, ftiew or expofe to be jLg. n'o Per- plaid at, drawn at, or thrown at, or ftiall draw, play or throw at any fuch Lottery, or any other Lot- fon to keep opea tery, either by Dice, Lots, Cards, Balls, or any other Numbers or Figures, or any other Way whatfo-'fuchLottery,6fc. ever ; and that every Perfon or Perfons that ihall, after the faid nine and twentieth Day oi December, ex- Penalty on Of- ercife, expofe, open or fhew to be plaid, thrown or drawn at, any fuch Lottery, Play or Device, or fender. other Lottery, fhall forfeit for every fuch Offence the Sum of Five hundred Pounds, to be recovered by 9 Ann. c. 6, Information, Bill, Plaint or AdUon at Law in any of his Majefty's Courts at Wcjlminjler, wherein no ^' s^- Effoin, Wager of Law, nor any more than one Imparlance ftiall be allowed ; one third Part thereof to r j^. III. And be it further enafted. That every Perfon or Perfons, that after the faid nine and twentieth p ^^' Day of December, fliall play, throw, or drav/ at any fuch Lottery, Play, or Device, br other Lotteries, ^ "^pij.-ing a"' fliall forfeit for every fuch Offence the Sum of twenty Pounds, to be recovered by Information, Bill, fuch Lotteries.
