' Picture, for the Improvement of fmall Sums of Money; and Advertifements thereof are daily publifhed ' in the common printed News Papers, and otherwife; which Pradlices are prejudicial to the Publick, and ' to the Trade of this Kingdom, and tend to defraud her Majefty's Subjefts :' Be it further ena£led by the Authority aforefaid. That the faid Ail of the tenth Year of the late King William, and alfo the faid A(£l of the faid laft Seflion of Parliament, lliall be duly put in Execution for the efi:e(Si:ual preventing and fup- preffing all fuch unlawful. Lotteries and Offices; and farther, That every Perfon or Perfons who, after the twenty-fourth Day of June in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, fliall ereft, fet up, or keep any Office or Place, for making Infurances on Marriages, Births, Chriftnings, or Service, or on any of them, or any other Office or Place, under the Denominations of Sales of Gloves, of Fans, of Cards, of Numbers, of the Queen's Pifture, for the Improvement of fmall Sums of Money, or the like Offices or Places, under the Pretence of improving fmall Sums of Money, fliall forfeit, for every fuch Of- fence, the Sum of five hundred Pounds, to be recovered with Cofts of Suit by Aftion of Debt, Bill, Plaint, or Information, in any of her Majefty's Courts aforefaid, wherein no Eflbin, Proteftion, Wager of Law, nor any more than one Imparlance fhall be allowed ; one third Part thereof to the Ufe of her Majefly, her Heirs and Succeflbrs, one other third Part thereof to the Ufe -of the Poor of the Pariih of the Place where the Offence fhall be committed, and the other third Part thereof, together with Full Cofts of Suit, to the Perfon or Perfons who fliall inform or fue for the fame : And every Printer or other Perfon, who, after the faid twenty-fourth Yidij oi June one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, fliall, by Writing or Printing, publifti the fetting up or keeping any fuch Office or Place under any the Denominations aforefaid, or like Denominations, for the Improvement of fmall Sums of Money, fliall, for every fuch Offence, forfeit the Sum of one hundred Pounds, to be recovered and diftributed in fuch Manner as the Penalty laft mention- ed is to be recovered and diftributed ; and every Perfon or Perfons who, after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, in any Office or Place, before the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, eredted or fet up for making Infurances on Marriages, Births, Chriftnings, or Service, or under any other the Denominations aforefaid, or any like Denominations, for Improvement of fmall Sums, fliall make or fuffer to be made therein, any new Infurances or Contracts for new Infurances on Marriages, Births, Chriftnings, or Service, or receive any Payments into any the Of- fices or Places aforefaid, for Improvement of fmall Sums of Money, fhall forfeit, for every fuch Offence, the Sum of one hundred Pounds, to be recovered and diftributed in like Manner. ex. Provided neverthelefs. That the Offices or Places erected under the Denominations aforefaid,' fet up or ufed before the faid twenty-fourth Day oifune one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, may be continued after the faid twenty-fourth Dzy of June one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, for making good and executing only fuch ContraiSts therein refpedlively made before the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and twelve, as they might have been continued if this Aft had not been made ; any thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithftanding. ' CXI. And whereas by the faid Aft for laying new Duties on Sope (amongft other Things therein men- ' tioned) it is required, That all Sope to be made during the Term thereby granted, fliall, upon the ma- ' king thereof, be put by the Maker into fuch Cafks as are thereby prefcribed, and none other, under the . ' Penalty therein expreffed ;' It is hereby declared, That the fame fnall not be conftrued to extend to hard ' Cake Sope, or Ball Sope ; any thing in that A& to the contrary notwithftanding. ' CXII. And whereas in purfuance of an A<St of Parliament of the eighth Year of her Majefty's Reign, 'intituled. An ASi for granting to her Majefly neiu Duties of Excife, and upon feveral imported Commodi- ' ties; and for eft ahlijhing a yearly Fund thereby, and by other Ways and Means, to raife nine hundred thoufand ' Pounds by Sale of Annuities, and in Default thereof by another Lottery, for the Service of the Tear one thou-
- ■ fand feven hundred and ten; Mary Ravenell, Widow, became Purchafer of an Annuity of eighteen Pounds
'■per Annum, and paid into the Receipt of the Exchequer the three firft Payments, according to the faid ' Aft, but by Miftake of her Agent, one Moiety only of the fourth and laft Payment was paid, and ' twenty-five Pounds remaining of the faid laft Payment is yet unpaid, and by Means thereof the faid Mary ' Ravenell cannot have an Order for Payment of the faid Annuity, in purfuance of the faid Aft ;' Be it therefore enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That it fhall and may be lawful to and for the feveral and refpeftive Officers at the Receipt^ of the Exchequer, to receive from the faid Mary Ravenell, for her Ma- jefty's Ufe, the Sum of twenty-five Pounds, fo omitted to be paid, as aforefaid, and upon the Receipt, thereof, to levy fuch Talley for the faid Money, and to make out fuch Order for the Payment of the faid Annuity of eighteen Pounds /)^r Annum, as they refpeftively might have done, in cafe the faid fourth and laft Payment had been duly paid according to the Direftions of the faid Aft - the faid Aft, or any thing tlierein contained, to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithftanding. ' CXIII. And whereas by an Aft pafled this prefent Seffion of Parliament, intituled, An ASi for the Re- ' lief of Merchants importing Prize Goods fro?n Amsxica, Prize Cocoa of the Growth or Produce of Fo- ' reign Plantations, not belonging to her Majefty or her Subjefts, taken in America, is to pay only fuch ' Duties and Cuftoms as the fame would pay if it were of the Growth arid Produce of the Plantations be- ' longing to the Crown of Great Britain; on which a Doubt is made by the Officers of her Majefty's ' Cuftoms, what Duties and Cuftoms fuch Prize Cocoa is to pay, there not being any Cuftoms impofed on • Cocoa of the Growth or Produce of her Majefty's Plantations, but on Cocoa imported from the fame :' For Remedy thereof, be it enafted and declared by the Authority aforefaid, That all Prize Cocoa of the Growth or Produee of fuch Foreign Plantations, not belonging to the Crown oi Great Britain, taken in 3 Americay
