D. 1 7 2 1 , ' XLIX. And whereas by feveral Acts of Parliament now in Force, feveral Duties are payable upon ' the Importation of Pictures ;' Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Duties for all Figures, which fhall be imported from and after the Feaft-day of the Annuncitation of the BlefTed Vir- gin Mary one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-two, fhall ceafe and determine, and in Lieu thereof there fhall be paid and payable to his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeilbrs, for all Pictures, that from and after the faid Feaft-day of the Annunciation of the BlefTed Virgin Mary one thoufand feven hundred and twenty- two fhall be imported into Great Britain, the certain Duties following, according to the refpective Di- menfions of fuch Pictures, That is to fay, For every Picture of four Feet fquare or upwards, or of any Dimenfions which being reduced, will produce a Square of four Feet or upwards, the Sum of three Pounds, of lawful Money of Great Britain. For every Picture of two Feet Square, and under four Feet Square, or of any Dimenfions, which be- ing reduced will produce a Square of two Feet, and under four Feet, the Sum of forty Shillings of like Money. And for every Picture under two Feet Square, or of any Dimenfions, which being reduced will produce a Square lefs than two Feet, the Sum of twenty Shillings, of like Money. Which Duties fhall be paid down in ready Money by the refpective Importers of fuch Pictures, from Time to Time, before the landing of the fame refpectively. L. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Duties upon Pictures imported, fhall be railed, levied, recovered and paid, and be brought into the Exchequer, by fuch Rules, Ways, Means and Methods, and under fuch Penalties and Forfeitures, and in fuch Manner and Form, as the Duties upon Pictures hereby taken away or any of them, might have been raifed, levied, recovered and paid, if the fame or any of them had continued. LI. Provided always, and it is hereby enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the Duties to arife upon the Importation of Pictures, purfuant to this Act (the neceffary Charges of Management excepted) fhall be appropriated and applied as near as may be, to the fame Ufes and Purpofes, to which the former Duties upon Pictures by this Act taken away, were applicable or ought to have been applied if this Act had not been made. LII. Provided alio, and it is hereby enacted, That the Duties by this Act charged upon Pictures im- ported or any Part thereof, fhall be redeemable by Parliament, in the fame Manner as the faid former Duties orr Pictures hereby taken away or any of them, were redeemable; and in all Cafes were any of the faid former Duties on Pictures were to ceafe or determine, a proportional Part of the Duties on Pic- tures hereby charged, fhall likewife ceafe and determine. South Sea Company may fell Shares of their Stock (not exceeding 200. cool, per Ant.uiTi} by Lottery, &c. I. ~WJ H E R E A S the Governor and Company of Merchants of Great Britain trading to the South- VV Seas, and other Parts of America, and for encouraging the Fifhery, commonly called the South- Sea Company, are poffeffed of divers Shares of the Capital Stock of the faid South-Sea Company, trans- ferred and pledged to the faid South-Sea Company or their Agents, for their Ufe, for divers Sums of Money lent by the faid South-Sea Company, and are likewife poffeffed of or intitled unto other Share* of the fame Capital Stock, allowed by the faid Company for, or arifing from or by Means of Receipts given for the Payments made on Subfcriptions for Money taken by the faid South-Sea Company, com- monly called Subfcription-Receipts, pledged to them or their Agents, for Monies lent by the faid South- Sea Company thereupon, which faid Shares of the faid Capital Stock amount together in the whole to three millions and upwards: And whereas the faid South-Sea Company Hands indebted for Exchequer- Bills, and alfo by their Bonds and Dividend-Warrants, in a larger Sum of Money than can be paid in fuch reafonable Time as may Jbe expected, without the Sale or Difpofal of fome Part of their Stock : And whereas the faid feveral Shares of Stock fo pledged and allowed for, or arifing from or by Means of the faid Subfcription-Receipts pledged as aforefaid, may be deemed, or fuppofed to be liable to Re- demption, though in no ways likely to be redeemed : And forafmuch as to enable the faid South-Sea Company fpeedily to pay their faid Debts, will tend to promote the publick Credit ;' Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiri- tual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for the faid South-Sea Company, and they are hereby ena- bled, from and after the twenty-fifth Day of March one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-two, to fell or otherwife difpofe of to any Perfon or Perfons, Natives or Foreigners, Bodies Politick or Corporate, all or any Part of the faid feveral Shares of the faid Stock, as well that pledged to the faid Company as aforefsid, as that which was allowed by the faid Company for, or arifing from or by Means of the faid Subfcription-Receipts fo pledged as aforefaid, or any Part of the Fund or Annuity iffuing and payable at the
