C. 22. 689 tire Juftices of the Peace at fome Quarter-Seffions to be held for fuch County, City, Town or Place where fuch Arrcftor 'faking fhall be, who are hertby authorized ami required with all convenient Exp :dition to make fome {landing Order or Orders for afcertaining fuch Expences, within their refpedtive Counties or PrecinSsi II. And that no Perfon may fufFer by reafon of his Ignorance of the afore-mentioned Provifions made by Sheri •■ this Adt; Be it further enadted by the Authority aforefaid, That all and every Sheriff, Under-Sheriff, primed Co| and other Perfons intrufted with the Execution of Procefs, fhall deliver a printed Copy of the faid Claufe -'".' '-' to every Bailiff, Serjeant or other Officer by them refpedtively imployed to execute Warrants within their refpedtive Bailiwicks ; and when any fuch Bailiff or other Officer fhall give Security upon his entring into Office, fhall require him to make it Part of the Condition of fuch Security, that he will fhew and deliver a Copy of the faid Claufe to every Perfon whom he fhall arrcft by Virtue of any Warrant, and carry or caufe to be carried to any publick or other Houfe, and permit him or any P'riend of his to read the fame, before any Liquor or Meat fhall be there called for ; and in cafe any Bailiff or other Officer fhall carry or caufe to be carried to any publick or other Houfe, any Perfon under his Arreft or in his Cuftody, and there permit any Liquor or Victuals to be called for, before fuch Claufe or Copy of it fhall be (hewn and read by or to the Prifoncr, fuch Negledt.or Default, befides the Breach of the Condition of fuch Security, fhall be accounted a Mifdemeanor in the Execution of the Procefs whereupon fuch Perfon is .arrefted, and be pu- nifhed as fuch. III. And be it further enadted by the Authority aforefaid, That every Sheriff, Under-Sheriff, Gaoler, Gaolers to per- Keeper of any Prifon or Gaol, or other Perfon or Perfons whatfoever to whofe Cuftody or Keeping any mit Prifoners tn one fo arrefted or taken fhall be committed, on any Pretence, fhall permit and fufrer him, her or them fo fend for ViftuaJa arrefted or taken, at his, her or their Will and Pleafure, to fend for and have any Beer, Ale, Victuals or ( '° m " n » tPlace other neceffary Food, from what Place they pleafe, and alfo to have and ufe fuch Bedding, Linen and other In^to h"c fuch Things, as he, fhe or they fhall think fit, without purloining or detaining the fame, or any Part thereof, Bedding, &c. as or inforcing or requiring him, her or them to pay for the having or ufing thereof, or putting any Manner of they (hall think Reftraint or Difficulty upon him, her or them in ufing thereof or relating thereto. fit - IV. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That no Fees fhall be taken by any Gaoler None but lawful or Keeper of any Gaol or Prifon within that Part of Great Britain called England, for any Prifoner or Pri- Fe=st° be taken foners Commitment or coming into Gaol, or Chamber Rent there, or Difcharge from thence, except what ° f Pnfenere, tilt are now allowed by Law, until fuch Fees fhall be fettled and eftablifhed by the Lord Chief Juftice of the ™ ea " Court of King's Bench, the Lord Chief Juftice of the Court of Common Pleas, and the Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer for the Time being, or any two of them, together with the Lord Mayor and two of the Aldermen, or with three of the Aldermen of the City of London, for and in refpedt of the Gaols and Pri- fons within the City of London, and for the faid Lords Chief Juftices and Lord Chief Baron, or any two of them, with three Juftices of the Peace of the Counties of Mi ddlef ex and Surrey refpedtively, for and in re- fpedt of the Gaols and Prifons in the Counties of Mi ddlef ex and Surrey; and the Juftices of the Peace of every other County, Riding and Divifion for the Gaols and Prifons in each refpedtive County, Riding and ' Divifion, at the Quarter-Seffions of the Peace to be held for fuch County, Riding or Divifion respectively, who are hereby impowered, directed and required to fettle and eftablifh the fame as foon as conveniently may be, and Tables fhall be made of the refpedtive Rates and Fees fo fettled and eftablifhed, and the Ta- Tables to be bles of the faid Fees, for and in refpedt of the Gaols and Prifons within the City of London and Counties made of the of Middlefex and Surrey aforefaid, fhall be figned by the faid Lords Chief Juftices and Lord Chief Baron, Fees » and the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London, and Juftices of the Peace of the Counties of Middlefex and Surrey refpedtively, by whom the fame fhall be made ; and the Tables of the faid Fees, for and in refpedt of the reft of the faid Gaols and Prifons, fhall be figned by three or more of the Juftices of the Peace attending at the fettling the faid Fees in fuch Quarter-Seffions of the Peace as aforefaid ; and fnall be reviewed and confirmed, or moderated, and then figned by the Judges of Affize, or one of them, in the refpedtive Counties within their feveral Circuits, together with three or more Juftices of the Peace of each refpedtive County, Riding and Divifion, and alfo Rules and Orders for the better Government of Prifons fhall be forthwith made, and from Time to Time enlarged and enforced, or altered and amended, as Occafion fhall require, by the feveral Courts in Wejlminfler-Hall, by Rules and Orders of the faid Courts, to be figned by the Judges of each refpedtive Court where fuch Rules and Orders fhall from i ime to Time be made, for or in refpedt of the Prifons belonging to the faid Courts refpedtively, as by the faid Lords Chief Juftices and Lord Chief Baron, or any two of them, together with the Lord Mayor and two or more Al- dermen, or of three or more Aldermen of the City of London, for and in refpedt of the Gaols and Prifons within the City of London, and by the faid Lords Chief Juftices and Lord Chief Baron, or any two of them, together with three or more Juftices of the Peace, under their Hands, for and in refpedt of the Gaols and Prifons within the Counties of Middlefex and Surrey aforefaid, and by the refpedtive Judges of Affize, or one of them, and three or more Juftices of the Peace of each County, Riding or Divifion, under their Hands, for and in refpedt of the Gaols and Prifons within their refpedlive Circuits, Counties, Ridings and Divifions ; and Duplicates of fuch Tables of Fees and Rules fhall be made and figned, and the fame fhall b; tranfmitted to the Courts of King's Bench, Common Pleas and Exchequer, there to be entred and inrolled of Record, without any Fee to be taken for the Inrblling thereof; and likewife fuch of them as relate to Gaols in each particular County, Riding or Divifion, fhall be regiftied by the Clerks of the Peace in their refpedtive Precindts in the Rolls of their refpedtive Seffions, without Fee, and hung up in fome and to behung open and publick Room or Place in every Gaol and Prifon, there to remain, and be reforted to by every upiheveryGaol. Prifoner, as Occafion fhall require; and that from and after fuch Tables of Fees fettled and confirmed as aforefaid, no Gaoler or Keeper of any Gaol or Prifon fhall demand, take or receive, diredtly or indiredtly, of any Prifoner or Prifoners for Debt, any other or greater Fee or Fees whatfoever for his, her or their Vol. V. 4 T Com-
