That from and after the firft Day of Jl-iny one Candies Soap thoufand feven hundred and fifty, no Candles, Soap or Starch {hall be brought or imported into Great Bri- or starch im- tuin, in any Ship or Veflel from Ireland, or the IJIe of Alan, or from any other Place or Places whatfoever ported contrary beyond the Seas, otherwife than in Cafk, Cheft, Cafe, Bag or other Package, each Cafk, Cheft, Cafe, '° '1^" Aft^ Bag or other Package whereof, fhall contain two hundred and twenty-four Pounds, of neat Candles, Soap or Starch at the leail, to be {lowed openly in the Hold of fuch Ship or Veffel importing the fame, under the Penalties and Forfeitures following (that is to fay) that all the Candles, Soap or Starch fo imported, in any to be forfeftecJ, or fhall be deputed or authorized thereto, by Warrant from the High 'Freafurer, Commiilioners of the offic Treafury, or Under Treafurer, or'by fpecial Commiffion from his Majefty, under the Great Seal or Privy feize the fame-. Seal, to feize fuch Candles, Soap or Starch, together with the Cafks, Chiits or other Package, containing the fame. XXVIIT. And be it enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after the firft Day of May one Officers of Ex- thoufand feven hundred and fifty, it {hall and may be lawful to and for the Officers of his Majefly's Reve- cifemaygoon nue of Excife, or any of them, to go on Board and enter into any Ship or Veffel whatfoever, which fhall be ^°^'"^ Vedels, within the Limits of any of the Ports of the Kingdom of Great Britain, and to continue on Board the fame, and to rummage and fearch in like Manner as the Officers of the Cufloms may now legally do, for all and rummaite Candles, Soap and Starch, and to feize for his Majefty's Ufe, as well all fuch of the faid Commodities as forCandles, fhall be there found, which by the Laws thereunto refpeftively relating, fliall be forfeited, together with ^^^ ^" '""^ ' the Cafks, Boxes, Chefts, Bags or other Package containing the fame; and in like Manner to feize fuch of the Commodities aforefaid, every or any of them, as before due Entry thereof, with the proper Officer or Officers, and without paying or fecuring the Duties on the Importation tiiereof, fhall be found un{liipping orunfhipped out of fuch Ship or Veflel, -to be laid on Land, without Entry and Payment of the Duties due for the fame refpedively, together with the Cafks, Chefls, Boxes, Bags or other Package whatfoever, con- taining the fame. • XXX. And be it further enabled by the Authority aforefaid. And for the more effeftual difcovering and deteiSting the running of any Candles, Soap or -rch; Ke it enacted by the Authoiity aforefaid. That in cafe any Perfon or Perfons whatfoever fhall know- in g'y
