'HERE AS the Advertifing a Reward with no Queftion, afk-d, for the Return of Things which have been loft or ftolen, is one great Caufe and Encouragement of Thefts and Robberies ;' Be it enafted by the King's moft Excellent MajeUy, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual , and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefcnt Parliament ailembled, and by the Authority of the fame. The Perfon ad T^^t from and after the Hril Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-two, any Perfon pub- vntifing a Re-" Hclcly advertiiing a Reward with no Queftions afked, for the Return of Things which have been ftolen or vjrd for the loft, or making ufe of any Words in fuch publick Ad verti Cement, purporting that fuch Rev/ard (hall be Reruniof given or paid without feizing or making Enquiry after the Perfon produring fuch Thing fo ftolen or krt"!^/"'^" " °^' ° promifing or offering, in any fuch publick Advertifement, to return to any Pawnbroker, or " ' ^' other Perfon, who may have bought or advanced Money by way of Loan upon fuch Thing fo ftolen or loft the Money fo paid or advanced, or any other Sum of Money or Reward for the Return of fuch and the iMnter Thing; and any Perfon printing or publifliing fuch Advertifement, fhall reipeftively forfeit the Sum of to loifeit 50I. fifty Pounds for every fuch Offence, to any Perfon who will fue for the fame. ' IL And whereas the Multitude of Places of Entertainment for the lower Sort of People is another great ' Caafe of Thefts and Robberies, as they are thereby tempted to fpend their fmall Subftance in riotous ' Pleafures, and in Confequence are put on unlawful Methods of fupplying their Wants, and renewing ' their Pleafures : In order therefore to prevent the faid Temptation to Thefts and Robberies, and to cor- reci as far as may be the Habit of Idlenefs, which is become too general over the whole Kingdom, and is productive of much Mifchief and Inconvenience ; Be it enaifled by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after the firft Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-two, any Houfe, Room, Garden, or U.ilicensM pfj^gj. pj.^^g ^.f^t for publick Dancing, Mufick, or other publick Entertainment of the like Kind, in the Places ot Ento- ^.^.^^ ^^ LoYidon and IVeJlm'mJler, or within twenty Miles thereof, without a Licence had for that Purpofe, taiiim'.'nt i ed diil-rd'eriy"'"" from the laft preceding Michaelmas Quarter-Seflions of the Peace, to be holden for the County, City," Ri- Ilouil's. ding, Liberty or Divifion in which fuch Houfe, Room, Garden, or other Place is fituate, (who are hereby authorized and impowered to grant fuch Licences as they in their Difcretion ftiall think proper) fignified under the Hands and Seals of four or more of the Juftices there afiembled, fiiall be deemed a diforderly Houfe or Place: And every fuch Licence ftiall be figned and fealed by the faid Juftices in open Court, and afterwards be publickly read by the Cler,c of the Peace, together with the Names of the Juftices fubf;ri- bing the fame ; and no fuch Licence ftiall be granted at any adjourned SeiTions ; nor fiiail any Fee or Re- ward be taken for any fuch Licence : And it ftiall and may be lawful to and for any Conftable, or other Conftablfs may Perfon, being thereunto authorized, by Warrant under the Hand and Seal of one or more of his Alajefty's locmd therein. J^ft'ces of the Peace of the County, City, Riding, Divifion or Liberty where fuch Houfe or Place ftiall be Situate, to enter fuch Houfe or Place, and to feize every Perfon who ftiall be found therein, in order that . they may be dealt with according to Law: And every Perfon keeping fuch Houfe, Room, Garden, or the fame fo'tbr-^'^her Place, without fuch Licence as aforefaid, ftiall forfeit the Sum of one hundred Pounds to fuch Per- fect tool. ion ^s will fue for the fame; and be otherwife punifliable as the Lav/ direfts in Cafes of diforderly Houfes. III. Provided always, and it is hereby further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That in order to crive Liccnfed Places publick Notice what 'Places are liccnfed purfuant to this AiSt, there fhall be affixed and kept up in forae to have an In- "^ . „, , t-v t^ i.- r u Lr r d /"■ j in •"iiii- fcription over notorious Place over the Door or Entrance or every lucn Houle, Room, Garden, or otlier Place, kept them, for any of the faid Purpofes, and fo licenfeJ as aforefaid, an Infcription in large Capital Letters, in the Words following; vhldicd, LICENSED PURSUANT TO ACT OF PARLIAMENT OF THE TWENTY-FIFTH OF KING GEORGE THE SECOND; and that no fuch "fncdVe°io'!e Houfc, Room_, Garden, or other Place, kept for any of the faid Purpofes, although licenfed as aforefaid, i'n'the Evening^ ^^11 be open for any of the faid Purpofes before the Hour of five in the Afternoon ; and that the affixing and keeping up of iiich Infcription as aforefaid, and the faid Limitation or Reftridion in point of Time, _ r (,, h f fhall be inferted in, and made Conditions of, every fuch Licence ; and in cafe of any Breach of cither of either of the ^^ ^^'^i Conditions, fuch Licence fhall be forfeited, and ftiall be revoked by the Juftices of Peace in their Conjitions the next General or Quarter SciTions, and fhall not be renewed ; nor ftiall any new Licence be granted to the Licence to be fame Perfon or Perfons, or any other Perfon on his or their or any of their Behalf, or for their L'fe or Benefit, revoked. diredly or indireilly, for keeping any fuch Houfe, Room, Garden, or other Place, for any of the Purpofes aforefaid. IV. Provided always.
