Dcfiirters. XXXI. And, for the better Encouragement of any Perfon or Perfons to fecure or apprehend fuch De- Reward for ta- ferters aforefaid ; Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, 1 hat fuch Juftice of the Peace fliall '^'"S Deierters, alfo iiTue his Warrant in Writing to the Colledor or CoJeclors of the Land Tax Money of the Parifn or Township where fuch Deferter fhall be apprehended, for paying out of the Land Tax Money arifen or to arife in the Year one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-five, into the Hands of fuch Perfon v/ho fhall appre- hend or caufe to be apprehended any Deferter from his Majefty's Service, the Sum of twenty Shillings for every Deferter that (liall be fo apprehended and committed ; which Sum of twenty Shillings fliall be fatisfied by fuch Colle6lor to whom fuch Warrant fhall be direfted, and allovv'ed upon his Account. XXXII. Provided always. That if any Perfon fhall harbour, conceal or ailifl: any Deferter from his Penalty on con- Majefcy's Marine Service, knowing him to be fuch, the Perfon fo offending fhall forfeit for every fuch '^^"£'^'==""=> Offence the Sum of five Pounds; or if any Perfon fliall knowingly detain, buy or exchange, or otherwife ^^1^^"^"^'*^^^'^ receive any Arms, Clothes, Caps or oiher Furniture belonging to the King, from any Marine or Deferter, ^^^ ' * upon any Account or Pretence whatfoever, or caufe the Colour of fuch Clothes to be changed, the Perfon fo ofrending fhall forfeit for every fuch Offence the Sum of five Pounds ; and upon Conviftion, by the Oath of one or more credible Witneis or Witnefles, before any one or more of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace, the faid refpective Penalties of five Pounds, and five Pounds, fhall be le'ied by V/arrant under the Appiicarlon of the Penalties. five Pounds to be paid to the Informer," and the Refidue of the faid refpecfive Penalties to be paid to the Officer to v/hom any fuch Deferter or Marine did belong : And in cafe any fuch Offender who fliall be con- For want of Di- vifted as aforefaid of harbouring or afufting any fuch Deferter or Deferters, or having knowingly received "'eft, ofterder any Arms, Clothes, Caps or other Furniture belonging to the King, or of having cauled the Colour of fuch '" ^^ coromiued.
