' Money and contract Debts^ amounting in ihe whole to the Sum of forty-nine thouFand one hundred ' and tifty-thjee Pounds eleven Shillings and nine Pence ; it was, amongll other Things, enacted. That ' the faid Governor^ Bailiffs and Commonalty of the Company of Confervators of the faid Great Level ' of the Fens, and their Succeifors, and all and every the Lands, Taxes, Rents and Revenues of the ' faid Corporation,, Ihould be abfoltitely difcharged from the Sum of eighteen thouland nine hundred ' and thirteen Pounds eleven Shillings and nine Pence (Part of the faid Debt of forty-nine thoufand one ' hundred and fifty-three Pounds eleven Shillings and nine Pence) due and owing to the moft noble ' Jo/:!! Duke of Bedford, and the right honourable Heiiij Earl of Lincoln, who are the Owners of the ' greateft Part of the Lands lying vi'ithin the faid North Level ; and that the Sum of one thoufand eight ' hundred Pounds, to be raifed from the taxable Lands, lying within the faid North Level, in the Man- ' ner by the faid Ai direcfted, (hould, when raifed, be applied in Difcharge of the Proportion of the ' faid North Level of and in the Refidue of the faid Debt of forty-nine thoufand one hundred fifty-three ' Pound.s eleven Shillings and nine Pence : And it was by the faid laft-mentioned ASt alfo further ' enabled and declared. That the Taxes chargeable by virtue of the faid Acts of the fifteenth and twen- ' tieth Years of King Charles the Second, upon the taxable I-ands within the faid North Level, ' fhould be always thereafter fixed and fettled upon fo much thereof as fhall be Part of the faid eighty- ' three thoufand Acres, at a Tax and a Quarter, and on fo much thereof as fliall be Part of the faid ' twelve thoufand Acres, in Proportion thereto, according to the faid Aft of the twentieth of King ' Charles the Second, and fhould not be lefTened or iucreafed under any Pretence whatfoever ; and ' that all the Money which fhould arife or be produced by the faid Taxes, within the faid North Levef,
- and all other the Rents and Revenues arifing and payable to the faid Corporation, by, from or out
' of the faid North Level, or any Part thereof, fhould from thenceforth be applied and difpofed of by ' the faid Governor, Bailifts and Commonalty, and their SuccefTors, in and about the feveral Banks and ' Works of the faid North Level, in the faid Adt particularly mentioned, and to and for no other ' Purpofe whatfoever ; and that the faid North Level, and all and Angular the Lands, Tenements, ' Rents, Taxes and Revenues thereof, fhould be freed, exonerated and diicharged, of and from the " Refidue of the faid Debt of forty-nine thoufand one hundred and fifty-three Pounds eleven Shillings ' and nine Pence, and all Intereft payable for and in refpedl thereof; and that the faid North Level, ' or the Lands, T'enements, Rents, Revenues and Taxes thereof, or of any Part thereof, fhould not be ' fubject or liable to the Payment of any Debt, or Sum or Sums of Money, which ihould at any Time ' thereafter be contracted, t'ken up or borrowed by the faid Corporation, for or on Account of the faid ' Middle or Soutii Levels or either of them ; and alfo that the faid Middle and South Levels or either of ' them, or the Lands, Tenements, Rents, Revenues and Taxes of them or either of them, fliould not be ' fubjeft or liable to the Payment of any Debt, or Sum or Sums of Money whatfoever, which ihould at ' any Time thereafter be contracted, taken up or borrowed by the faid Corporation, on Account of the faid ' North Level : And whereas, the ("aid Sum of one thoufand eight hundred Pounds has been raifed and ap- ' plied in purfuance of the faid A6I: of the tvventy-feventh Year of his prelent Majefty's Reign ; and the ' faid Corporation have alio, fince the inaking of the faid laft-mentioned Act, paid off the Sum of one ' thoufand Pounds, in further Part of the laid Debt of forty-nine thoufand one hundred and fifty-three ' Pouiids eleven Shillings and nine Pence, over and befides the faid Sum of one thoufand eight hun- ' dred Pounds raifed and applied as aforefaid ; whereby the Debt of the faid Corporation is reduced to ' the Sum of twenty-feven thoufand four hundred and forty Pounds : And whereas the faid Debt of ' twenty-feven thoufand four hundred and forty Pounds is fecured by Bonds, under the Seal of the ' laid Corporation, who have thereby bound and obliged themfelves to pay the feveral Sums mentioned ' in the faid refpeiftive Bonds ; and inafmuch as the faid Sum of twenty-feven thoufand four hundred ' and forty Pounds is, by the faid Aft of the twenty-fevcnth Year of his prefent Majefty, become a ' Charge upon the faid Middle and South Levels only, it is become neceffary to exchange the Bonds ' for fecuring the faid Debt, and to mention in the new Bonds, to be given for that Purpofe, that the ' Money fo to be lecured is due from the faid Middle and South Levels only : And whereas Doubts ' have arilen amongft the Creditors of the faid Corporation, concerning the Securities they now have ' for their refpective Debts, by reafon that the faid Corporation have it in their Power, under the be- fore-mentioned A6ts of the fifteenth and twentieth of King Charles the Second, either to tax fuch

' very fmall Taxes, or not to tax the fame at all, whereby the Fund for the Payment of the Debts due to the faid Creditors may become deficient : And whereas the faid Corporation may have Occa- fion to borrow further Sutns of Money for the Support and Prefervation of the laid Great Level ; and it will be neceffary to diftinguifli in all future Bonds to be entered into by the faid Corporation, whether the Money borrowed upon fuch Bonds be for or on Account of the faid Middle and South ' Levtis, or for or on Account of the faid North Level :' To the End therefore that a fufiicient Fund may be at all Times hereafter raifed and fecured for Payment of the Bonds of the faid Corporation ; and that the Bonds given by the faid Corporation for the faid Sum of twenty-feven thouland four hun- dred and forty Pounds may be exchanged as aforefaid ; and that the faid Corporation may be enabled to boirow fuch further Sums as fhall be neceflary for the Support and Prefervation of the faid Great Level ; and that difbnfl Bonds may be given for the Money which fliall be lb borrowed upon Account of the faid Middle and South Levels, and upon Account of the faid North Level ; Be it enacted bv the King's mofl Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Conlent of the Lords Spiritual and Tem- ijoral, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament alfembled, and by the Authority of the fame, Tiiat di,uiji£ fuch Time as any Debt or Sum of Money (hall be due and owing from or upon Account of the faid
