T HE underlying principles in the art of lettering involve many elements which are deceptive and require careful observation.
A study of the origin of the standards of lettering discloses many interesting and instructive features. To become a master of lettering one must, to some extent at least, understand the fundamental logic of the subject. Upon making such a study we can formulate our observations into rules to be followed in practice.
