From the above it is seen that the total dues paid in on instalment shares in force plus the profits on the same of the building and loan associations of the country amounted, in 1893, to f 450,667,594. An estimate derived from State reports would indicate that the latter sum is now in the vicinity of ^600,000,000, which may be considered as representing the financial transactions of the building and loan associations of the country. Failures The following table (which, as well as the two following, is printed by courtesy of the editor of " Bradstreet's ") shows the bank failures for six years, with number suspending, indicated total assets, and estimated liabilities :
