The number and tonnage of registered sailing and steam (ex- clusive of river steamers) vessels of the United Kingdom engaged in the home trade — the expression ' home trade ' signifying the coasts of the United Kingdom, or * ports between the limits of the river Elbe and Brest ' — with the men (exclusive of masters) employed thereon was as follows in five years : —
