III. Manufactures.
The following classification of manufactories, number of hands employed, and capital invested is compiled from the returns of 1897, as far as the number of establishments and hands employed is concerned, and from the Census returns of 1891 for the capital invested : —

The total revenue from import duties in 1897 amounted to 1,250,176^., or 5*77 per cent, of the total value of the imports.
