Area and Population. I. Progress and Present Condition.
Austria — exclusive of the Tiu-kish provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have been under the administration of Austria-Hungary since 1878, but have not as yet been formally incorporated with it — has an area of 115,903 English square miles, with a population at the census of December 31, 1890, of 23,895,413 or 206 per square mile. The following is the civil population of Austria at the three last cens^sus -.^^
