The Shanghai Bund and Tea-Gardens.

According to the last census (1900) there were 11,407 foreigners in Shanghai, of whom 3713 were British, 2159 Japanese, 1320 Portugese, 991 American, 785 German, and 586 Indians. The Chinese population in the foreign settlement, exclusive of the French section, was 452,716, which is nearly double what it was ten years previously.
