At the Reatoration he was '<)ne of the cavalcade to eacort the King on his landing. He was imprisoned ^ the Tower, 16 Feb. 1676/7 to 29 July following, for declaring the Long i*arL dissolved by its fifteen months' prorogntiou. He waa suspected of fraud in promoting the pa«4iiig uf the " JlaUa* Oorpui " Act, and of being concerned in some of the many plots of that period. He was one of the first to declare for William III., to whom, in Feb. 1688/9, he wa» P.C. He m., firstly (settlement 20 Sep. 16812), Elizabeth, da. and h. of Sir Rowland Wamdisford, of PickhUl, CO. York, Attorney Gen. of the Court of Wards, by Catherine, da. of Thomas Wbhtwobth, of North Elmsall, in that county. She, who was living 10 Oct. 1685, d. s.p.m., and was bur, at Kirkby Stephen.
