Oxford; B.A. Family estates. — These consist chiefly of the greater portion of the Scudamore inherited, 22 Oct. 1820, (on the death, s.p. of Frances, Dow. Duchess of Norfolk, Ml Scudamore), by the father of the 9th Earl, whose grandfather, Edwin Frances Stanhope, m. Catherine, the only child that had issue of John Brydgcs, all/ltd Marquess of Carnarvon, the s. and h. ap. of James, 1st Duke of Chaudos, who was great grandson and h. of Sir Giles Brydges, Bart, (so ct>. 1027), who hi. Mary da. of Sir James Scudamore of Holme Lacy, co. Hereford, sister of John, cr. Viscount Scudamore [I.] in 1028. In 18S3 these estates consisted of 5039 acres, co. Hereford, worth £0,224 a year, to which may be added 152 acres in Herts, worth £250 a year. Total 5,191 acres, worth £6,4S0 a year. Principal Residence, Holme Lacy, co. Hereford. Ch.), 28 May 1090, being then aged IS, sue. his Father in 1703 ; was M.P. for Stafford, 1702-34 ; Master of the Buckhouuds to Queen Anne (resigning that office in 1711) , Hanger of St. James' Park and Keeper of the Mall, 1714-27 ; and was on 29 June 1717, cr. BAKON OF RATHDOWNE, CO. DUULIN, AND VISCOUNT CHETWYND OF BEARHAVEN, co. Kerry [I], with a spec. rem. failing the heirs male of his body to those of his deceased Father. High Steward of Stafford, 1717. He m. 27 May 1703, at St. Martins in the Fields, Mary 1st da. and coheir of John Berkeley), 4th and last YlSCOOST Fitzuaudinge and Baron Berkeley of Ratlulownc [I.] by Barbara, da of Sir Edward Villiehs, Knight Marshal. He d. s.p. after a tedious illness, 21 Feb. 1735/0, at Ingestrie and was 6m". there. Will dat. 13 and 14 Feb., pr. 10 March 1735/0 and 2 Nov. 1730. His widow, who had been Maid of Honour to Queen Anne, d. a year after him and was bur. at Ingestrie. Will dated 27 Nov. 1730, pr. 19 March 1730/7. II. 1736. 2. John (Ciietwynd), Viscount Ciietwynd of Bear Haves, &c. [I.], br. and h. according to the spec. rem. in the pateut. M.P. for St. Mawes, 1715-22; for Stockbridgc, 1722-34, and for Stafford; 1738-47. He was Receiver Gen. for the Duchy of Lancaster, temp. Anne ; Commissioner of Trade, &c. 1714 ; Envoy to Spain, 1717 ; Recorder of Stafford, 1735, and High Steward of Stafford. He m. before 1720 ( — ), who d. before him and was bur. at Ingestrie. He d. s.p.m.s.( b ), 21 June 1707, and was bur. at Ingestrie. Will dat. 3 March 1705, pr. 12 July 1707, by his daughters, Catherine Talbot, widow, and Francis Chetwyud, spinster. (") He inherited the manor of Bold and other property in co. Stafford by the death s.p. of Walter Ciietwynd of Ingestrie, his Cousin and Godfather, on 21 March 1093. ( b ) Of his sons (1) John mat. at Oxford (Corpus), 12 May 1737, then being aged 17; was cr. M.A 24 Jany. 1739/40 : d. at Ingestre v.p. and iram, 30 May 1741. (2) William Richard, mat. at Oxford (Corpus), 17 Jany. 1740/7, being then aged 15. He was M.P. for Stafford, 1754-05, but d. s.p.m. and v.p., Feb. 1705 in the South of France. Their sister, Catherine (the only child that had issue), m. Hon. John Talbot, and was mother cf the 1st Earl Talbot and Viscount Imjcstre, who inherited the Chetwynd estates, being grandfather of the 3rd Earl Talbot, who, in 1850, became Earl of Shrewsbury.
