William (Bourke), Earl of Clanricarde, &c. [I], br. and h. male, was, in 1640, a Colonel in the Royal Service ; Lieut of Galway, 1680 ; Chief Gov. thereof, 16S7. He in. firstly Lettice, da. of Sir Henry Shfrley, Bart., by Dorothy, da. of Robert (Drvereux), Earl op Essex. She, who was h. about 161 7, WftS bur. as " the wife of Col. Burke," 25 Sep. 1655, at Bredon, co. Leicester. He m. secondly, Ellen, da. of Donough (Maccarty), 1st Earl of Clan- carty [L], by Eleanor, sister of James (Bltler), 1st Duke of Ormonde. He <l. Oct. 16S7. VIII. 1687. S. Riciurd (Botjrke), Earl op Clanricarde, &c. [L], s. and h. by 1st wife. P.O. [I.], 16S8. He was in command of a Reg. of Infantry in the Irish Army of King James II in 1689, and being Governor of Galway, surrendered that town to de Giukle two weeks after tin* battle of Aughrim.^) He was outlawed 11 May 1691. John (Bourke), Earl op Clanricarde, ifce. [I.], br. and h. male of the whole blood. He was b. 1642, and was Col. of a lteg. of Infantry in the Army of James II and had been cr. by that King, 2 April ( a ) Creations " 1483—1616, in ap. 47th Rep. D. K. Pub. Records. ( b ) There appears to be some uncertainty as to the date of bis death, which by Bome is put as late as 29 April, 1658, while in the histories of Carte and Clarendon it is put in 1652 and in Oct. 1653. A note in " Lodge " I. p. 136,-says that " it appears that he died as in the text from several Chancery proceedings and especially from bills filed by his da. and her husband the Lord liluskerry, for the recovery of the estate."
