J, and the youngest m. the Earl of Howth [I.], an Earldom of somewhat greater antiquity (1787) than tin's creation of 1800, so that the Earldom of Clanricarde (1S0O), if inherited by the heir male of either da., will become merged. (') The estate of Somerhill, in Kent, had passed out of the De Burgh family some 200 years ago. The grantee was, indeed (as is explained in " Courthope "), descended from the 7th Earl, who was cousin of the 5th Earl, who was Baron Somerhill [E.], but ia spite of this (his ancestor's) cousinship, the selection of the title seems inappropriate.
