He dii great service to the King during the rebellion of 1641, and was at the 'Age of 80 or upwards, 11 July, 1662, BARON MOYARTA AND VISCOUNT CLARE [or O'BRIEN OF CLARE], eo. He was, like him, devoted to the Royal cause, and raised, for James II, in Ireland, in 1 6S9, two Regiments of Infantry, and one of Dragoons which was considered "the flower of James' army,'" but was, on 26 July, 16S9, "cut almost to pieces" near Lisnaskea( h ) ; P.C., 16S4 ; Lieut, of co. Clare. He fought at the battle of the Boyne, 1 July, 1690. He m. Philadelphia, sister of Thomas, 1st Earl op Sussex, da. of Francis (Lennard), Lord Dache, by Elizabeth, da. of Paul (Bayn- ino), 1st Viscount Bayning of Sudbury. Shed 1662. He was outlawed 11 May, 1691, whereby his estates(°) and title became forfeited. He appears to have d. that same year.
