He was sum. to Pari, by writs, 6 Nov. 1319 to 15 May 1321. He joined in the rebellion of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, with whom he was defeated at Borough- bridge and taken prisoner, being shortly afterwards, 23 March 1322, executed at York.( :l ) He d. s.p. III. 1322. 3. Robert (de Clifford), Lord de Clifford, Sheriff of Westmorland, br. and h., 6. on All Saints' Day 1305, being aged 22 years, on the death of his mother in 1326-27. He was sum. to Pari, by writs, 10 Pec. 132" to 20 Aprd 1344. By the death of his great aunt, Idoueade Vipont, he in- herited other considerable estates of that family. He served in the Scottish wars and repaired the Castle at Skiptou which had suffered much therein. He m. in Berkeley Castle, June 132S, Isabel, da. of Maurice (Berkeley) Loud Berkeley, by his 1st wife Eva, da. of Eudo La Zouche. With her he had £1,000 and 50 marks, for her portion. He d. 20 May 1344. His widow m. Sir Thomas Mtjsorave, and d. 25 July 1362. IV. 1344. 4- Robert (de Clifford), Lord de Clifford, Sheriff of Westmorland, s. and h., aged 13 years at his Father's death. He was never sum. to Pari, as a Baron. He m. Euphemia, widow of Reginald Lucy, da. of Ralph (Nevill), 2nd Loud Nevill, by Alice, da. of Sir Hugh Aodley. He d. in France, s.p. probably about 1350, hut certainly before 1354. His widow m. Sir Walter Heselarton, and d. 1395. V. 1350 ? & Roger (de Clifford), Lord de Clifford, Sheriff of Westmorland, br. and h, 6. 10 July 1333, made proof of his full age, 10 Aug. (1354) 28 Ed. III. He was sum. to ParL, as a Baron, 15 Dec. 1357 to 28 July 13SS( b ). He was one of the most distinguished of his race, serving in the wars with Scotland and France. In 1377 he was Sheriff of Cumberland and Gov. of Carlisle Castle, was a Knight Banneret, and was, some time, Warden of the East and West Marches. On 12 Oct. 13S6 he gave evidence in the famous controversy of Scrope with Grosvenor. He m, Maud, da. of Thomas (BkauchAMp), Eahl of Warwick, by Catharine, da. of Roger Mortimer of Wiguiore. He d. 13 July 13S9.( C ) His widow rf. 1102/3. VI. 13S9. G. Thomas (de Clifford), Lord de Clifford, Sheriff of Westmorland, s. and h., aged 26 at his Father's death. He was v.p., a Knight of the lung's Chamber, and, 1384, Gov. of Carlisle Castle for life. Ho was sum. to Pari, as a Baron 6 Dec. 13S9 to 7 Sep. 1391. He m. Elizabeth, da. of Thomas (de Ros), Lord de Ros, by Beatrice, Dow. Countess of Desmond [I.], da of Ralph (Stafford) 1st Earl Stafford. He d. 18 Aug. 1391, or, according to some accounts, 4 Oct. 1393 being slain, near Spruce, in Germany. His widow d. March 1424. VII. 1391, 7. Joiin (de Clifford), Lord de Clifford, Sheriff of or Westmorland, only s. and h., scarce 3 years old at his Father's death, 1393. made proof of his age (1410-11) 12 Hen. IV. He was sum. to Pari, as a Baron 21 Sep. 1411 to 26 Feb. 1420/1. ( b ) He took part in a great tournament at Carlisle between six English and six Scotch Knights, as also in the French war. K.G., 3 May 1421. He m. Elizabeth, da. of the famous Sir Henry Percy (" Hotspur ") styled Lord Percy, by Philippa, da. of Edmund (Mortimer), Earl of March. He d. 13 March 1421/2, being slain at the siege of Meaux in France. His widow m. secondly, as his first wife, Ralph (Nevill), 2nd Earl of Westmorland (who d. 3 Nov. 1484), and d. 26 Oct. 1437. ( a ) According, however, to some accounts he survived till the reign of Edward III. ('>) There is proof in the Rolls of Pari, of his sitting. (<=) Sir Lewis Clifford, KG., whose curious will (1404) is given in the " Test. Yd." and who iB the reputed ancestor of the Barons Clifford of Chudleigh, was probably a br. but certainly not a son of this Lord.
