Dame Anne Crofton, widow, relict of Sir Edward I 1797 Crofton, Bart., was, 1 Dec. 1797, cr. BARONESS CROFTON OF MOTE, co. Roscommon fl,], with rem. of that Barony to the heirs male of the body of her said husband, for whom, had he lived, such honour was intended. He was s. and h. of Sir Marcus Crofton, 1st Bart. [I.], formerly Marcus LowraKit, by Catherine, da, of Sir Edward Ckofton, 3rd Bart. [I.] (of a iorwer creation), sister and h. of the 4th Bart. He was b. 17 Aug. 1746 ; was M.P. for co. Roscommon, 1776-97 ; having sue. his father in the Baronetcy, 16 Jan. 1784 ; was Col. of the Roscommon Militia, and d. 28 Sep. 1797. His widow was Anne, da. aud h. of Thomas Croker, of Baxtown, co. Kildare, by Anne, da. aud coheir of William Rtves, of Uppercourt. She was b. 11 Jan. 1751, m. 13 April 1767, was cr. a Peeress in 1797 as abovestated, and d. 12 Aug. 1S17. n. 1817. 2. Edward (Crofton), Baron Crofton of Mote [I.], grandson and h., being s. and h. of Sir Edward Crofton, 3rd Bart. [I.], by Charlotte, 5th da. of John (Stewart), 6th Earl ok Galloway [S.], which Sir Edward was s. and h. ap. of the suo jure Baroness Crofton [I.] abovenamcd, but (/. v.m. 8 Jan. 1816, aged 37. He was b. 1 Aug. 1806, in Clarges Street, Midx., and (UC his father as 4th Bart. [I.], 8 Jan. 1816. Rep. Peer [I.], 1840-69 ; one of the Lords in Waiting, Feb. to Dec. 1852, Feb. 1858 to June 1S59, and July 1866 to Dec. 1868. He m. 19 Oct. 1833, at St. James', Westm., Georgiana, 3rd da. of Henry William (Paget), 1st Marquess of Anglesey, by his 1st wife, Caroline Elizabeth, da. of George (Villiers), 4th Earl of Jersey. He d. 27 Dec. 1869, at Mote Park. His widow, who was b. 29 Aug. 1800, d. there 9 Nov. 1875, aged 75. m. 1869. 3. Edward Henry Chitichlle (Crofton), Baron Crofton of Mote [I.], and a Bart. [I.], 1st s. and h., b. 21 Oct. 1834, in London ; Gent, of the Bedchamber to the Lord Lieut, of Ireland, April 1867 to Due. 1868 ; State Steward, 1880. Rep. Peek [I.], Feb. 1873. William Crofts of Saxham, Suffolk, s. and h. of Sir I. 1658 Hemy C. of the same, by his 1st wife, Elizabeth, da. of Sir . ' Richard Wortley of Wortley, co. York.( a ) He was brought up . at the court, being Master of the Horse to James, Duke of York ; io "- Capt. of the Guards to the Queen Mother, and a Gent, of the Bed- chamber to Charles II, by whom, when in exile, he was, by patent dat. at Brussels, 18 May 1658, cr. BARON CROFTS OF SAXHAM, co. Suffolk. He had charge of the King's illegit. son (afterwards Duke of Monmouth), soon after the death, 1656-57, of the mother of the child, who was thenceforth known as " James Crofts," and brought over to England, in 1660, as " Capt. Crofts." In 1060 he was sent on an embassy to Poland to announce tho Kiug's accession. On 31 March 1667 he sue. his father in the Suffolk estates. In 1670 he entertained tho King at Saxham.
