Keut, distinguished himself iu the Irish wars against the Earl of Tyrone in 1599, &c. ; was Seneschal of co. Cavau, 1603 ; Constable of Philips- town Castle, 1609 ; M.P. for Dungannon, 1613 and finally, 1615, President of Monster. He was cr., 20 July 1616, BARON MOORE OF MELLEFONT,(») co. Louth [I.], and on 7 Feb. 1621/2, was cr. VISCOUNT MOORE OF DROGHEDA(') [1.] He m. about 1590, Mary, da. of Sir Henry C'olley, of Castle- Carbery, co. Kfldare, by Catharine, da. of Sir Thomas Cusack, Lord Chancellor [I.] lie d. at Drogheda, 9 Nov. 1627, aged 67, and was bur. at St. Peter's Church there. His widow »i. (as his 2d wife) Charles (Wilmot), 1st Viscount Wilmot of Athlone [I.], sometime President of Connaught. She d. 3 June 1654, and was bur. by her first husband at Droghedn. II. 1G27. 2. Charles (Moore), Viscount Moore of Drogheda, &c. [I.], 3d but 1st surv. s. and h. male, was 24 years old at his father's death. He acted with extraordinary vigour during the Irish rebellion of 1640, standing a siege by some 14,000 rebels at Drogheda. Gov. of co. Louth, 1642. He m. Alice, yst. da. of Adam (Loftus), 1st Viscount Loftus of Elye [I.J by Sarah, da. of ( ) Batbow. He was slain by a cannon shot, 7 Aug. 1643, at Portlester, co. Meath, and was bur. at St Peter's, Drogheda. His widow d. 13 June 1649 (" of a reene ") and wa3 bur. with him. Admon. (of each of them) 10 Oct. 1650, to son am Moore, Esq." III. 1643. 3 and 1. Henry (Moore), Viscount Moore of Earldom n 1 Drogheda, &c. [I]., b. and h. ; M.P. for Ardee, 1639-13 ; was, on his L J father's death, made, in 1643, Gov. of the counties of Meath and I. 1661. Louth, &c., as also Col. of a troop of Horse. In 1653 he compounded with the then Government for £6,953, being about double the clear nett rental of his estates. After the restoration he was, 14 June 1661, cr. EARL OF DROGHEDA [I.] He m. Alice, sister of Henry, 1st Eahl of Sunderland, da. of "William (Spencer), 2d Baron Spencer of Wormleighton, by Penelope, da. of Henry (Wriothesley), Earl of Southampton. He d. 11 Jany. 1675. His widow who was bap. 29 Dec. 1625, at Brington, co. Northampton, was living 15 Oct. 1694, when she had a grant of £2,000 to recompense for 3 years loss of her jointure during the wars of 16S9. He d. s.p.s., in Dublin, 18 June 1679. His widow m. as his first wife, William Wycherley, the well known author of "The Plain Dealer" and other plays, who was bur. 5 Jany. 1715/6, at St. Paul's, Coveut Garden. Earldom [I.] -| 3 and 5.
