The opinion of [Walter Burgh anil John FitzGibboii] the Chief Law Officers [I.], in their report, 26 April 17S2, on the claim to this title, states "that the evidence of the claimant's ancestors having sat and voted as Peers of Ireland from 9 Hen. VII to the commencement of the reign of William and Mary was clear, and that from the prece- dence appearing, from the journals of the House of Lords, to have been taken by the Louds Dunsany, there was strong reasons to conclude that the said title and honours existed in the claimant's family so early as the reign of Edward IV."] Barony [I.] 1. See vol. i, preface, p. iii, note " a." See also vol. i, p. 171, note " c," sub " Athenry," as to the approximate date of the early Irish Baronies. In the Pari, of 1541 this Barony is placed next immediately after that of Killeen, and consequently before that of Howth (both cr. probably about 1430) and Trimleston, but, on the other hand, in almost all the other Paris, (including that of 1G29, when the ranking appears to ha7e been particularly attended to) the Barony of Dunsany is postponed to that of Trimleston, of which latter the creation was undoubtedly in 1401/2. ( b ) Camden, in his " Ilibernin," saya that this Christopher " tituhim Bakonis Dunsany, sua virtute, consequtus crat," while of his father he saya that " cvectus fuerat ad dignitatem Bakonis Kilun, quod [i.e., " quod" manerium, not, of course, " quod " diynitas] per uxorem, c stirpe Cusakia hajredem, ipsi obvenerat."
