Both were bur. at Staunton Harold.] (») Chartley was inherited from the Devereux family together with the Barony of de Ferrers (often called Ferrers de Chartley) by the first Earl Ferrers, on whose death in 1717 it became alienated from that Barony and passed (with the 18th century Earldom) to bis heir male, who, however, was not heir general, either to the Earl or to the Lords de Ferrers, the ancient owners of Chartley.
