Joiin-David Fitz-Gerald, one of tlio T.if a Justices of the Queen's Bench division of the High Court of Justico in Ireland was on 23 June 1882, appointed a Lord ok Appeal in I. 1882, Ordinary (under " the Appellate Jurisdiction act, 1S7G ") and granted to the dignity of a Baron for lifc(') by the style or title of BARON 1889. He was s. of David Fitz Gerald, of Dublin, merchant, by Catherine, 1st da. of David Leahy, of London; was b. 181rf in Dublin ; Barrister (King's Inns), 1838; Queen's Counsel, 1847 ; M.P. for Ennis, 1852-60 ; Bencher, 1853 ; Solicitor Gen. [I.]. 1855-56 ; P.C. [I.], 1856 ; Attorney Gen. [I.], 1856-58, and 1859-60 ; Judge of the Queen's Bench [I.], 1860-82, when he was raised to the (life) Peerage as above stated ; P.C. [U.K.], 1882 ; LL.D., of Dublin, &c. He m. firstly, in 1846, Rose, 2d da. of John O'Donoghue, of Fitzwilliam square, Dublin. She d. 1850. He m. secondly, 3 May 1860, Jane Matilda Mary, sister of Thomas Arthur Joseph, 4th Viscount Southwell [I.], 2d dn. of Lieut. Col. the Hon. Arthur Francis Southwell, by Mary Anne Agnes, da. of Thomas Dillon, of Mount Dillon, co. Dublin. He rf. 16 Oct. 1889, in Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin, and was bur. at Glasnevin Cemetery, when his life Peerage became, of course, extinct. Will pr. at Dublin over £12,000 on 9 Jan. 1820.
