He m. secondly, 13 July 1S24, at the Chapel Royal, Whitehall, Harriet, da. of Sir William Lk.mu.v, 1st Bart , by Jane, da. of John Buller of Morval, co. Cornwall. Lord de Dunatanville and Basset, d. s.p.m., 14 Feb. 1885, at South Place, Kensington, when the Barony of De Dunatanville of Tthidy and the Baronetcy (1770) became extinct, but the Barony of Basset of Strattou, devolved on his da. under the spec rem. in its creation. Mayo, b. about 1780 ; sue. his lather 21 Nov. 1S20 ; M.P. for co. Boscommon, 1821-32, was cr. 16 May 1839, BARON DE FBEYNE ( u ) OF ARTAGH, co. Roscommon. Having, however, no male issue he was, 5 April 1851, a: BARON DE FREYNE OF COOLAVIN, co. Sligo, with a spec. rem. failing the heirs male of his body to hia brothers "John French, Clerk, Charles French, Esq., and Fitzstephen French, Esq." in like manner (••>) The estate of Tehidy was acquired by the Basset family, about 1150 (thro' marriage), from the family of Dunstanvdlc. ( b ) This Arthur French was M.P. for co. Roscommon, 1783-1820, from the time of his coming of age to his death. He is said to have been offered an Earldom to support the Union, and, subsequently, a Barony, without any condition annexed. John French, his uncle, also M.P. for co. Boscommon, 3745, till his death (s.p.) in 1775, was about to have beeu raised to the peerage as Baron Dungar, a dignity which (after his death) is said to have beeu declined by Arthur French, br. and h. of the said John, being father of Arthur above named and grandfather of Lord de Freyne. ( c ) " This title is merely an archaic form of the family name, otherwise de Freiync, or de Fraxinis."
