Col. of the Horse Guards, aud, (1702-04), Col. of the second troop of Horse Grenadier Guards; P.C., to William III. and to Queen Ann, being a supporter of the Revolution in 1689, and of the Union [S.], in 1707 : was made Lord Lieut, of the counties of Aberdeen and Kincardine, 19 Aug. 1715, to suppress the Jacobite insurrection. He m. Aune, da. of James Buodie, of Brodie, eo. Nairne. He was bur. 25 July 1716,( a ) at St. Martin's in the fields, Midx. Admon. Gen., 1808 ; General, 1S19. Col. of the 94th, April 1809, of the 54th, Sep. 1809, and of the 21st Foot, 1816-43 ; Knight of St. Jauuarius of Sicily ; Rep. Peer [S.], 1806-43 ; Commissioner to the Gen. Assembly of the Church [S.], 1826. He m. 2 June 1792, at Crailiug, co. Roxburgh, Elizabeth, 1st da. of Walter Hunter, of Polmood, co. Peebles and of Crailiug afsd., by Caroline, 4th da. of George (Mackenzie), 3d Earl of Cromarty [S ] She who was b. 9 May 1775, d. 1 Oct. 1830. He d. i May 1843, aged 78, at Bregeny, on the lake of Constance, aged 78.
