He distinguished himself in the wars with tho Scots by whom, in June 1379, he was made prisoner, being ransomed for 3,000 marks. Ho was several time3 Joint Warden of the Scotch Marches. He m. VI., by writs directed "Johanni, BarenU*) de Greystok, Cld'r." He was sometime Gov. of Roxborough Castle and was several times employed in treaties with and expeditions against the Scots. He m., 2S Oct. 1407, Elizabeth, eldest of the two daughters and coheirs of Robert Ferrers, by Joan (afterwards Countess of Westmorland), legitimated da. of John (Plantagenet, styled of Gaunt), Di'ke of Lancaster, which Robert Ferrers, was 1st s. of Robert [jure uxoris !] Lord Ferrers db Wkm.me. lie d. 8 Aug. (1436), 14 Hen. VI., aud was bur. at Greystock. Will dat. 10 July 1436, at which date his Wife was living. VIII. 1436. 7. VI., by writs directed "Radulfo, BARom( a ) dcGrcystoke, C/iV," and from 3 Dec. (1441), 20 Hen. VI., to 15 Sep. (1485), 1 Hen. VII., by writs directed " Radulfo de Greystok, Chev'lr," having been sum. to Pari, without any interruption thro' the whole period of the civil war between the Houses of Vork and Lancaster. He was several times employed to treat with the Scots. He m. firstly (by dispensation) Elizabeth, da. of William (Fitz- Huon), 4th Lord Fit/.-Hugh, by Margaret, da. of William (Willoughby), Lord Willoughby de Eresbv. He Ri. secondly Elizabeth, sister of Sir James, mid da. of John Tyrrell. He d. s.p.m.s., 1 June 1487. was also changed. The summons by the writ of 1321 under the name of " Graystok " can hardly, in those ejrly days, be held to create anetv Barony when issued to one who was entitled (under his former name) to such summons; but if such theory is maintained, in that case, these Lords must be held to be entitled to two separate Baronies, viz. (1) Fitzwilliam under the summons of 1295 aud (2) Greystock under the summons of 1321. A somewhat analogous case occurs frequently in later tiinesiuthecase of the hereditary dignity of a Baronet, where a change of name, tho' involving a change of the title, makes no difference in the precedency of the liaronetcy itself.
