His Barony, however, is generally considered to have been (fiat of LORD SAY (jure uxorii), and in a charter of 1 Hen. IV., to which he was a witness, he is styled " William Heron, Lord of $dy, Steward of the King's Household." His said wife d. 8 July 1399. He d. s.p. Oct. 1404 when the Barony of Heron, if considered as a distinct dignity from the Barony of Say, became extinct. HERRIES OF TERREGLES. Barony [s.j /. Herbert Herries, of Terregles, co. He in. firstly Mariot Carlyle who was living 1 June 1486. He m. secondly before 4 June 1493, Mariot Cunninoiiam, at which data they were both living. He d. between 25 Feb. 1499/500, and 23 Dec. 150(3. II. 1505? 2. Andrew (Merries), Lord Herries of Terregles [S.], s. and h. by first wife. He Bi. before 22 Dec. 1495, Janet, da. of Archibald (Douglas), 5th Eaul of Angus [8-1 by his first wife, Elizabeth, da. of Robert (Boyd), Loud Boyd [S.] He d. 9 Sep. 1513, being slain (with his King), at the battle of Flodden. III. 1513. 3. William (Herries), Lord Herries of Terregles [S.], s. and h. He m. Catharine, da. of James Kennedy, of Blair- quhan. William Cockburn of Skirling, resigned their inheritance to Lord John Hamilton, 2d s. of James, Duke of Chattellerault, which John (afterwards, 1599, er. Marquess of Hamilton [S.]) resigned 3 Sep. 1561, his two-thirds of the Barony of Terregles to Sir John Maxwell, the owner of the other third.
