HOWABD, 261 [The destination of this Barony after 1485 is involved in some uncertainty. In the Act by which Thomas Howard [el: Duke of Norfolk ill 1514), son of the Grantee, was "retiorrtl (1480), 4 Hen. VII., it is stated that the attainder of 148fi is to "betaken repnted as void," and that he, the said Thomas, i» lobe reitvicd "in us large fourmeas tho' the said act of attoyndre hail never ben, 7 ' yet, it is added, that the provision* of the said act arc not to attend "for the said Thomas to am/ honour, estate, name and dignite hut otdie to the honour, estate, name, and dignite of SHi of Sumy." It would appear, then, that this restora- tion did no/ affect the Barony, and it is certain that it was not affected by the act of Pari., 20 Dee, 1 000, mder which the Dukedom of Norfolk, of the creation' of USD, [am! that atone) was restored to the Howard family. In all probability tho Barony of Howard still remains forfeited under the attainder of 1485, but, if otherwise, it must have continued merged in the Dukedom of Norfolk (being included in the numerous forfeitures and restorations which befel that dignity) till the death of Edward, the 9th Duke, in 1777, when it would have fallen into abeyance (with several other Baronies) between the Lords Stourton (now bonis Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton) and the Lords Petre, in which state (supposing it not to be all'ected by the forfeiture of 1485) it would still (1892) remain.] HOWARD OF BIND02T.
