Huntingfield, co. .Suffolk, &e>, s. and h. of Roger( b ) de H., of the same, by Cicely, da. of Sir Walter Norwich, sue. his father (1337), I. 1351, 11 Ed. HI., being then 7A vears old, was sum. to Pari, as a Baron to (LORD HUNTINGFIKLD) from 15 Nov. (1351), 25 Ed. III., to 137G, 20 Nov. (1360), 34 Ed. III., and again from 8 Jan. (1370/1), ( a ) He was, however, unable to recover any of the vast estates of the family. (>>) This Roger was s. and h. of William {d. 1313) who was engaged in the Scotch wars, who was s. and h. of another Roger {d. 1301) who had summons to two councils, 8 June 1294, and again 26 Jan. 1296/7, neither of which however (see vol. i) p. 259, note " c,"and p. Ill, note " b "), constituted a regular Pail. This last named Roger was s. and b. of William (one of the rebel Barons at Evesham) who d. 1 282. beings, and h. of another Roger (</. 1252) who was s. and h. of William de Huntingfield (tf. 1240) one of the twenty-five Borons chosen to enforce the Magna Charta. From this circumstance, observes Banks (liar- An;/. Cone.) the family should " pretty evidently " be considered as possessed (prior to any writ of summons) of Baronial rank. " Taking this observation to be correct, it follows that the descendants of the said William were to be similarly considered and that their Baronial rank was/oioicfrrf on tenure, not acquired by creation by writ ; their right of summons to Pari.
