About this date she is supposed to have been ecclesiastically tho' not lcgally() married to B.R.H. Augtifttis Frederick, Dukf.of (Sus.-hX, h-arl v) ' Inverness, &c.,(°j above-named. She was (accordingly ?) «■., 10 April 1SS40, DUCHESS OF INVERNESS. Ued. 21 April 1843, aged 70. She (/. p.p. at Kensington palace 1 Aug. 1873, when the title became extinct. Both were Sur. nt Kensal Green cemetery. Her will ]ir. 29 Aug. 1873, under £25,000. INVERURIE. i.e., " Keith of Inverurie and Keithhall," Barony [S.], (Keith), cr. I«77, with the Earldom of Kintohk [S.J, which see. (*) As she in no way represented her mother, who left several sons that had issue, and as the said mother was herself a person of no family or fortune, this change from Bvggin to PnHtruood was probably only for the sake of (lie mole tuihonioi.s and aristocratic sound of the latter surname. ( b ) The Royal Marriage Act of 1772 (see vol. ii, p. 441, note "d," sub " Cumber- land"), would make the content of Pari, necessary to make this marriage valid. This was never obtained by the Duke of Sussex either in this case or in that of Lady Augusta Murray whom twice (4 April 1793, at Rome, and again 5 Dec. following, at St. Geo. Han. scj.) he had ecclesiastically mariied. ( c ) The death of the lady whom the Duke had previously (ecclesiastically) married (see note " b " next above) occurred 4 March, 1830.
