She d. after a lingering illness at High Wycombe Oct. 1740. He d. in London s.p.s. 17 April (") Luttrell's diary of that date. The passage is " Lady Shelburn, wi.low to Sir Wm. Petty, worth £30,000, is married to Sir George Crofton, of Ireland," but there is no mention of such marriage in " lodge," or, apparently, any other authority. ( b ) Lodije. (°) John Petty, his eldest br., was bnp. 15 Feb. 1669, and bur. 28 Feb. 1070, at St. Bride's, Dublin. ( J ) One of the peerages cr. by James II. See vol. iv, p. 9, note "c," »«i " Galway." (°) Luttrell's diary, 5 Dec. 1696, mentions that they were "privately married' and that she was " worth upwards of £40,000." ( f ) These estates, consisting of 62,336 acres (English) in the Barony of Glane- roughty and of 34,181 in that of Dunkeron, were continued to him, 14 Sep. 169G- (8) The date in " Lodge," (where the preamble to the patent is recited) is 26 Oct., but, as the Privy Seal was 20 May, the .late iu June seems the more likely.
