John Paulet, s. and h. coheir of the Barony in H68, whose grandson was cr. in 1539/40, Baron Saint John, ami subsequently (1551) Marquess of Winchester. Thomas Kingston s. and b. ; coheir of the Barony in 1458. ( c ) The coheirs were the daughters (or their issue) of his 1st s, and b. ap., Sir Hugh Poynings, otherwise St. John, who rf. v p. Oct. 1426. These were (1) John Bonville, aged 16 in 1429, only child of Joan, the (irst da. b. about 1391), who was first wife of Sir Thomas Bonville, who it. Feb. 1467. This John rf. s.p.m. 25 Aug. 1494, aged 81 [see Halliday's " Porhek Monuments"]; (2) Constance, aged 20 in 1129, and then wife of (her first husband), John Pawlet. Her great grandson and heir, W illiam Pawlet, was cr. in March 1539 Baron Saint John [" Seint John "] and sum. to Pari, in April following by writs directed "Willo Paulet de St. John de Basing," and on 16 Jan. 1541/2, and subsequently by writ directed " Willo I'aulet Domino St. John de Busttyi." He was afterwards (1551 J cr. Marquess of Winchester (3) Alice, aged 19 in 1429, and then wife of John Orrell, by whom she had no male issue. She m. secondly ( — ) Kingston and rf. 19 A/nil 1439, leaving a s. and h., Thomas Kingston, of Shute, co. Devon, b. 1435, who left issue. On 7 Nov. (1458), 37 Hen. VI., " John BonvU, s. of Jane, 1st da. of Hugh Poynings, abovemenlioned, John Pawlet, s. of Constance, 2d da. of the said Hugh, and Thomas Kingston, s. of Alice, the 3d and youngest da. of tilt said If ugh, by indenture tripartite in which they are described as above, divided certain lands and tenements as cousins and heirs, as well to Thomas Poynings, Knt., late Lord St. John, as to Hut/h St John, Knt., s. and h, of the said Thomas.
