The second son, Sir George Hamilton (d. before 1676) was the husband of the beautiful Frances Jennings (sister of Sarah, the well known Duchess of Marlborough), who IB. secondly Richard (Talbot), Earl [titular Dnkc] of Tyrconnel [I.] (*>) In Wood's " Douglas " (vol. i, p. 6), this O-eorge Hamilton is said to have been "cr. a Baronet of Ireland in 1660," but in the 1st edit. (1764) of Douglas' l'eernge [S] it is merely stated that he was cr. a Baronet, neither the date nor the kingdom being specilied. In Lodge's " Peerage" [I.] (edit. 1739, vol. v, p. Ill), be is called a "Baronet of Nova Scotia," as be is also in the 1st edit. (1754) of that work. J™ last is the earliest mention of any Baronetcy, for neither in " Cruwfurd ' {lilv} nor "Crossley" (1720) is such a dignity mentioned. No record of any such creation appears in either kingdom, and it is stated in " Lodge" (vol. v, p. 121), Sir George's grandson and heir, James Hamilton, "declined after his grandfathers
