'2 March 1334, from Edward III., recognising that fact. He was one of the nobles who witnessed BolUol'a surrender uf part of Scotland to England, 12 July 1234. He paid homage to the King, »« father, at Scone 28 March 1371, being then described as EARL OF STRATHERNE [S.], and on the 19 June following had a charter shewing that the Earldom had been granted " to him and his heirs." He was shortly afterwards (before Nov. 1375) cr. EARL OF CAITHNESS [S.] ami is designed in a charter, 14 Feb. 1380/1, " Earl Palatine of Stratherne and Earl of Caithness " [S.J.
