" It was on account of thiB marriage [of Townshend] with the da. of Lord Pelham, whose mother was Lady Lucy Syiney, that the present [1811] Marquis Townshend when sr. an Earl [in 17S4] chose the title of Leicester, and that the late Mr. Thomas Townshend, when made a Peer, chose that of Sydney."
