This creation was in company with that of Ashtown, Gastlemaiue, Langford, &c, all of which Baronies [I.] were conferred on persons who, having been in opposition shortly before, changed sides to be thus ennobled. [!] ( r ) Since he was not of the same family of Preston as the former Lords Tara, his choice of that title was on the principle of that of the peerage of (.'arringtoii in 1796, and of Morley in 181.1, each of which was conferred on a person of Hie same surname (Smith and Parker), but nut of the same race as the ancient holders of those titles.
