K. Laughtou, iu the " iVat. Biogr.," who shows clearly that tho' acquitted of "cowardice" or " disaffection," it was not (as popularly held) for "an error of judgment" that he was condemned, but for "negligence; i.e., " negligence so gross as to be iu the highest degree criminal. ' ( b ) He, besides four daughters, his coheirs (all of whom were married), had three sous, all of wdiom d. unm. and v. p., viz. (1) William Henry, b. 20 May 1709 ; d. 23 Nov. 1770. (2) William Henry (the 2d so named), b. 7 May 1775 ; (/.Oct. 1792. (3) George, d. of dysentery as a mid'shipmau of H.M.S. AauiloB, at Gibraltar in his 10th year.
