He d. s.p.m., 24 Aug. 1 75 1, of the small pox, at Tixall, aged 28, and with him expired the issue male of the first Peer, when the Baronetcy became extinct. Will dat. II Aug., pr. 5 Dec. 1751. It should be noted, however, that H.W.F.Harwood, in his excellent article on ' Aston ' in The Scots Peerage, is unable to prove the extinction of the lines of Herbert A. or of John A., brothers of the 2nd Lord, or of Thomas A., his uncle, and that the heir of anyone of these three, if such existed, would have taken precedence of the afsd. (2) Barbara, who inherited the estate of Tixall, />. 4 and ^i?/>. 8 Sep. 1744, at Standon, m., 2 Feb. 1762, at St. James's, Westm., the Hon. Henry Thomas Clifford, and was mother of Sir Thomas Hugh Clifford (afterwards Clifford-Constable), of Tixall, cr. a Baronet in 1815. Standon House was sold in 1767.
